SSWriter is a “status writer” written in C, licenced under the GNU GPLv3. SSWriter reads informations about your computer (acpi, date, ...) and shows them as you like using a format string.
This tool has been written to be used with Wmii but you can use it how you want.
SSWriter is actually in complete rewriting with a new design. The version 0.4 will be composed of a daemon and several tools to start/read some "monitoring elements". It will be network-usable, will use the concept of profile to load several elements from a configuration file and will implement a lot of new features.

(What's new.)
Example on my laptop with the command:
sswriter -d "%d/%m/%y - %H:%M" -D eth0 ath0 "Mem: %mMB, Swap:
%sMB - %n[%q%%] %i kB/s %o kB/s - CPU: %C0MHz (%p0%%) - B1 %b1%% -
%d"
Here an other example:
sswriter -T 0,1 -D ath0 eth0 ath1 "%(B#WARNING# battery is
low!%)%(bMem: %mMB Swap: %sMB - %n%(w[%q%%|%rMB]%): %i|%o kB/s -
CPU: %C0MHz [%p0%%] %T0°C - %B1 %b1%%%)"
All the documentation is in the README file.
